Updated the performance of S6. After testing in live server, it was confirmed that the 40% damage bonus is an unique multiplier. Therefore we have updated the % of S6.
Cartethyia Overview
In Wuthering Waves, Cartethyia is a 5-Stars Aero character and uses Sword during the fight.
Cartethyia Mechanism

Cartethyia’s mode & 3 types of swords
First, let’s look at Cartethyia’s form.
As you can see, there are three small swords on Cartethyia’s Forte Circuit bar, corresponding to the Sword of Divinity, Sword of Discord, and Sword of Virtue in story.
Cartethyia’s 4th Basic Attack, Heavy Attack/Intro Skill, and Resonance Skill can each activate one of these three swords.
Then, if Cartethyia uses a Mid-air Attack, it will deal damage based on the number of swords activated.
The Mid-air Attack multiplier is:
- One sword: 5.65% (of Cartethyia’s max HP)
- Two swords: 9.9%
- Three swords: 33.87%
The damage is extremely high, and the Mid-air Attack damage is considered Aero Erosion damage. If Ciaccona’s Outro Skill buff is active, the damage can be doubled.
So, when playing Cartethyia, remember to fully activate all three swords before using a Mid-air Attack.
Cartethyia’s Basic Attack has four hits.
The 1st hit involves swinging the sword horizontally.
The 2nd hit slashes out an X-shaped sword light.
The 3rd hit summons two diamond-shaped mirror-like objects that bounce left and right before colliding in the middle.
This hit of the Basic Attack has a slight crowd-gathering effect, with enemies being bounced around like ping-pong balls before being pulled to the center.
The 4th hit summons a diamond-shaped force field at the gathered location and slams it downward.
The 4th hit also applies one stack of Aero Erosion to enemies hit.
Then, a Sword’s Shadow is left at that location, lasting for 20 seconds—this is the Sword of Divinity.
We can see the second small sword on Cartethyia’s Forte Circuit bar light up.
If you hold the attack button, she summons a small black hole, which also has a slight crowd-gathering effect.
It then leaves behind a Sword of Discord’s Shadow.
Additionally, Cartethyia’s Intro Skill also summons the Sword of Discord, so if Cartethyia uses her Intro Skill, you don’t need to use a Heavy Attack. However, in the open world or when executing a double Mid-air Attack rotation, you’ll need to use the Heavy Attack to summon Sword of Discord.
Cartethyia can use her Resonance Skill in mid-air, applying two stacks of Aero Erosion to hit targets and summoning a Sword of Virtue’s Shadow.
When Cartethyia uses her Resonance Skill, she immediately ascends into the air, so if you press the attack button right after the skill, she’ll perform a Mid-air Attack right away.
Each sword triggered during the Mid-air Attack grants a different buff, but we don’t need to worry about them individually because we always assume the 3-sword Mid-air Attack is being used. Thus, all buffs are active by default. We’ll explain their effects in the Fleurdelys (Big Cartethyia) form section.
So, what you need to do in Cartethyia Mode is:
- Perform four Basic Attacks, then hold the attack button during the 4th Basic Attack to execute a Heavy Attack.
- Use the Resonance Skill, then spam the Basic Attack button—once the skill animation ends, Cartethyia will immediately perform a Mid-air Attack.
Alternatively, if Cartethyia enters the field using her Intro Skill, the rotation becomes: - Perform four Basic Attacks.
- Use the Resonance Skill, then press the attack button to execute a Mid-air Attack.
Now, what’s this double Mid-air Attack rotation mentioned earlier?
Well, Cartethyia’s Mid-air Attack has no cooldown—the only limiting factor is her Resonance Skill’s cooldown: 14s at S0 and 11s at S2.
Since Cartethyia’s 3-sword Mid-air Attack deals extremely high damage, even if you extend a full rotation to 28s, you’ll still gain a significant damage advantage.
Fleurdelys (Big Cartethyia) Mode
After discussing Cartethyia’s small form, let’s look at Fleurdelys mode.
When Cartethyia’s Liberation energy is fully charged and she uses her Resonance Liberation, she transforms into Fleurdelys.
If her HP was above 50% before transforming, it will drop to exactly 50%. However, since Cartethyia naturally has high HP, survival isn’t a concern.
After transforming, all of Cartethyia’s skills change completely. The Forte Circuit bar also changes its appearance – the three small swords disappear and are replaced with a more standard energy charging system. When this bar is fully charged, you can use the enhanced Resonance Liberation.
Additionally, after transforming, Cartethyia gains a 12-second [Manifest] buff with two effects:
- During these 12 seconds, as long as you haven’t unlocked the Special Resonance Liberation yet, pressing the Resonance Liberation button will let you transform back to Cartethyia. The Manifest buff timer will pause until you transform back to Fleurdelys, when it will continue counting down.
The benefit is you can weave transformations to small form into Fleurdelys’ rotation. Since small and big form Resonance Skills have separate cooldowns, you can use Fleurdelys’ Resonance Skill, switch to small form to use hers. - The second effect activates when you perform Cartethyia’s 3-sword Mid-air Attack before transforming. You gain three buffs while Manifest is active:
- Fleurdelys’ 4th Basic Attack creates a stasis field that freezes enemies (works on bosses too). This is important because her 4th and 5th Basic Attacks have long animations.
- Enemies near Fleurdelys take 50% more Aero Erosion damage, but Aero Erosion triggers twice as fast (every 1.5s instead of 3s). This isn’t necessarily good because the Special Resonance Liberation needs Aero Erosion stacks to maximize the damage.
- Certain attacks (5th Basic Attack, 2nd Mid-air Attack, enhanced Heavy Attack, and 2nd Resonance Skill hit) will copy the highest Aero Erosion stack from one enemy to all nearby enemies.
However, these attacks will immediately consume 1 Aero Erosion stack when hitting enemies. Combined with the faster 1.5s trigger rate, this makes Aero Erosion stacks deplete very quickly.
Aero Erosion stacks affect the enhanced ultimate’s damage – each stack increases damage by 20% (max 5 stacks = 100% bonus). With 5 stacks, the ultimate’s damage doubles. Ciaccona’s ability to maintain Aero Erosion stacks greatly boosts Cartethyia’s performance.
Any attack in Fleurdelys form (Basic Attacks, skills, Heavy Attacks) obtains [Conviction]. Fleurdelys has a 5-hit Basic Attack combo – the 5th hit deals nearly as much damage as the first four combined. Don’t cancel the slow 4th and 5th hits prematurely.
Fleurdelys’ Heavy Attack is a forward thrust. Pressing attack during the thrust executes an enhanced version – she steps back then shoots forward.
Her Resonance Skill creates a force field and lifts her up. Pressing again makes her dive down with a sword shadow attack (both hits have crowd control). After the 2nd hit, pressing attack continues the Basic Attack chain from the 3rd hit.
Fleurdelys’ Mid-air Attack has 3 hits, but the 2nd hit is strongest while the 3rd hit is the weakest. So we typically only use the first two hits Mid-air Attack.
Summarization of Rotation
Standard Rotation –
Start with Cartethyia using her Intro Skill to activate the first sword. Follow up with three Basic Attacks to activate the second sword (since after the Intro Skill, you can directly perform the second Basic Attack). Then use Cartethyia’s Resonance Skill and then press the basic attack button to execute a three-sword Mid-air Attack.
Activate her Resonance Liberation to transform into Fleurdelys. Immediately begin attacking with Basic Attacks until completing the full five-hit of Basic Attack. Use Fleurdelys’ Resonance Skill to launch into the air, then press the attack button twice to perform two Mid-air Attacks. Press the Resonance Skill again to plunge down, then continue pressing the basic attack button to chain into the third Basic Attack and finish the fifth hit. By this point, the energy gauge should be full, you can use the Special Resonance Liberation.
Advanced Double Mid-air Attack Rotation –
The core idea is to use Cartethyia’s Resonance Skill before her Intro Skill. Enter battle with the Intro Skill, complete 1 set of Basic Attack, then perform a three-sword Mid-air Attack. Activate the Resonance Liberation to transform into Fleurdelys.
Once transformed, immediately use Fleurdelys’ Resonance Skill twice. Finish the five-hit Basic Attack, then press the Resonance Liberation button to revert to Cartethyia. After switching back, complete another Basic Attack sequence, pre-input a Heavy Attack, then use the Resonance Skill followed by a Mid-air Attack. Transform back into Fleurdelys, complete the five-hit Basic Attack sequence once more, and finally unleash the Special Resonance Liberation.
This method maximizes damage by weaving in additional three-sword Mid-air Attack while maintaining optimal uptime for both forms’ abilities.
Cartethyia Active Skills
Cartethyia Skills Priority

Basic Attacks, Forte Circuit, and Resonance Liberation should all be maxed out first, followed by Resonance Skill and Intro Skill.
If you enjoy using Cartethyia for openworld content or are executing the double Mid-air Attack rotation,
then prioritize maxing Basic Attacks.
If you prefer a simpler playstyle with single Mid-air Attacks and favor using Fleurdelys,
then prioritize maxing Forte Circuit first.

Can be performed in mid-air.
Entering Manifest clears all Resolve.
As Fleurdelys, Basic Attack – Fleurdelys Stage 5, Mid-air Attack – Fleurdelys Stage 2, and Resonance Skill – May Tempest Break the Tides instantly trigger 1 instance of Aero Erosion DMG and reduce the Aero Erosion stack on the target hit by 1.
– Ending the state will not clear Resonance Energy.
– No HP cost when HP is below 50%.
During Manifest, Fleurdelys gains 60% Aero DMG Bonus.
Fleurdelys’s attacks restore Resolve on hit. When Resolve reaches 120 points, Resonance Liberation to cast Resonance Liberation – Blade of Howling Squall.

S1
When killing enemies with Cartethyia or Fleurdelys’ skills (Basic Attacks count as skills), the game records the target’s Aero Erosion stacks and copies them to the next enemy hit. This works together with Fleurdelys’ ability to spread Aero Erosion stacks in an area, effectively preventing any damage loss when switching between enemy targets. However, it’s important to note this effect won’t trigger if enemies die from Aero Erosion DoT damage. Additionally, Fleurdelys gains 25% Crit DMG per 30 Conviction, though Cartethyia doesn’t receive this benefit. In terms of damage improvement, this provides a 15.8% DPS increase for single Mid-air Attack rotations, but only 11.6% for double Mid-air Attack rotation strategies.
S2
When paired with Rover Aero, this increases the maximum Aero Erosion stacks from 6 to 9 layers. With Ciaccona’s support, these 9 stacks can deal around 30k damage per tick. After using Resonance Liberation, the next attack will automatically add 3 Aero Erosion stacks without consuming any existing stacks. However, without Ciaccona, you still can’t reach the full 5-stack damage buff for the enhanced ultimate. The most significant upgrades include tripling Cartethyia’s Mid-air Attack multiplier and reducing skill cooldowns by up to 3 seconds. These changes result in a 45% DPS increase for double Mid-air Attack rotations and 30% for single Mid-air Attack rotations.
S3
This upgrade provides two main benefits. First, it doubles the damage of Special Resonance Liberation. Second, it modifies Fleurdelys’ attacks to add 2 additional Aero Erosion stacks per hit with no cooldown. While this makes Ciaccona less crucial to Cartethyia, the damage output difference remains noticeable when not using her.
S4
This is a straightforward upgrade providing a flat 20% damage bonus increase.
S5
This upgrade focuses solely on survival utility and doesn’t provide any damage improvements.
S6
The RC offers three powerful effects. First, Fleurdelys receives a 40% damage bonus that doesn’t apply to Cartethyia. This 40% damage bonus is a unique multiplier. Second, using Special Resonance Liberation will automatically maximize Aero Erosion stacks on all enemies without consuming any stacks. Third, after Cartethyia uses either her Intro Skill or Resonance Liberation, any team member adding Aero Erosion stacks to already max-stacked enemies will trigger immediate bonus damage.
Pulling recommendations:
S1R1, S2R1, S6R1
If you don’t have Ciaccona and don’t want to wait for her rerun, getting S3 is advisable. If you already have Ciaccona, S2 provides sufficient improvement, and you should consider going straight to S6 if planning to invest further.

Sub Stats
For Cartethyia’s Echo, the recommended set is the newly released Windward Pilgrimage. The ideal configuration uses a 44111 Echo combination. This is because 1-cost Echoes provide a 22.8% HP bonus along with 2,280 flat HP, which gives better value than 3-cost Echoes. If you use a 43311 setup instead, you would lose approximately 7% damage output.
For the two 4-cost Echo slots, you should use Reminiscence: Fleurdelys as your main Echo for casting Echo Skill, while placing Nightmare: Kelpie in the second slot. When it comes to main stats, if you’re using her signature weapon or other weapons that boost CRIT DMG, you’ll want one piece with CRIT Rate as the main stat and another with CRIT DMG as the main stat. However, if you’re using weapons that increase CRIT Rate instead, then both pieces should have CRIT DMG as their main stats.
For substats, the priority order should be: CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG first, followed by HP percentage, then Basic Attack DMG Bonus, and finally flat HP.
Regarding Energy Regen, there are no specific requirements. Both the single Mid-air Attack and double Mid-air Attack rotations only need 100% Energy Recharge to maintain optimal performance.

Cartethyia Team Comp
Cartethyia Best Team
Main DPS
Main DPS – Cartethyia
Cartethyia is a Main DPS which part of her damage (Special Liberation) depends on the stack of Aero Erosion on ememies.
Support/Sub DPS – Ciaccona/Sanhua/Aalto
Ciaccona can apply Aero Erosion to enemies continuously, which can maxmize Cartethyia’s Special Reosnance Liberation’s damage. Ciaccona’s Outro Skill can also provide 100% Aero Erosion DMG bonus which is excellent for Cartethyia.
If you don’t have Ciaccona, you can use Sanhua or Aalto as the sub-DPS. Since Cartethyia’s Basic Attacks account for over 60% of her total damage output, she pairs well with Sanhua’s 38% Basic Attack Deepen buff. Alternatively, Aalto’s 23% Aero Deepen buff also works effectively with her kit. Although Cartethyia doesn’t benefit from ATK buffs, S6 Aalto provides an additional effect: increasing Resonance Liberation’s effect by granting an extra 8% Crit Rate. This buff also applies to teammates, meaning if Cartethyia’s attacks pass through Aalto’s portal, they will also gain the increased Crit Rate.
Healer – Shorekeeper/Rover Aero
In addition to providing the traditional 15% All DMG Deepen like other healers, Shorekeeper’s Liberation can offer continuous healing, crit rate, and crit damage, making it very powerful. The Outro Skill’s buff allows knocked-back teammates to immediately recover from the interruption.
Rover (Aero) can increase the maximum stack of Aero Erosion of the target.

Calcharo
Calcharo primarily uses the enhanced Basic Attack and enhanced Forte Circuit after using Resonance Liberation for damage output. In the series of damage output after using Resonance Liberation, the damage ratio between Resonance Liberation and Basic Attack is approximately 2.2:1. Additionally, the Resonance Skill can be released at intervals, allowing full enjoyment of the permanent five-star weapon’s effects.
After using Resonance Liberation, Calcharo gains a new Basic Attack model. The multiplier for this attack is related to the level of Resonance Liberation, but the main proportion of his damage comes from the “Death Messenger” in Forte Circuit. Resonance Skill can be used during the Liberation period to interrupt Basic Attack combos, quickly generate Forte Circuit Energy, and trigger “Death Messenger”. The main components of his damage output consist of these three elements.
Encore
mong the permanent 5-star Fusion DPS characters, Encore enters an enhanced state and changes attack mode after activating Resonance Liberation. The main source of Encore’s damage comes from Basic Attacks after activating Resonance Liberation, not the Forte Circuit. Additionally, the cooldowns for Encore’s regular Resonance Skill and the enhanced Resonance Skill during Resonance Liberation are independent of each other.
In Encore’s damage output after activating Resonance Liberation, Basic Attack damage accounts for nearly 70%. Choosing Sanhua as a teammate can maximize her damage potential.
Sanhua
Although Sanhua has burst capabilities, the overall damage is not high. In Sanhua’s output cycle, Resonance Skill damage and Resonance Liberation account for approximately 51% and 41%, respectively.
Although Resonance Skill damage is slightly higher, there is a risk of missing in actual combat. Sanhua has a unique Forte Circuit trigger mechanism similar to rhythm games, and hitting enemies can cause a slight time-stopping effect.
Sanhua has the fastest Concerto Energy and Resonance Energy acquisition efficiency in the game, making it the most versatile and best-feeling support in the current version. After using the Intro Skill, Sanhua only needs 3 seconds to fully charge Concerto Energy and trigger QTE, activating the Main DPS for output. Our team composition recommendations for various characters also show Sanhua’s high versatility.
