Zani Overview
In Wuthering Waves, Zani is a 5-Stars Spectro character and uses Gauntlet during the fight.
Zani Mechanism
Zani’s Forte Circuit bar
Above Zani’s HP bar, there are two Forte Circuit bars. The segmented bar on top is called Redundant Energy. When it is fully charged, it can be used to unleash an enhanced Resonance Skill, granting a Deepen buff and starting a burst phase. The full solid bar below is called Blaze, which is the resource Zani needs for her burst damage. After activating Resonance Liberation, Zani enters her Resonance Liberation state, and this Blaze bar becomes the primary Forte Circuit bar.
Redundant Energy and Breakthrough
Zani’s Basic Attack has four segments. In the third segment, Zani first hits twice with her shield, then retreats and sits on a chair, which is more commonly used in actual combat. Finally, there is the fourth segment. During the third segment of the Basic Attack, you shouldn’t press the Basic Attack key too rapidly. You should pause slightly, and after Zani sits on the chair, press the Basic Attack key again. Zani will then kick out the shield, which drills through the air like a drill. This move is what the skill description refers to as Breakthrough. Pressing Basic Attack again after this will chain into the fourth segment. If you just mash the button continuously, you won’t be able to trigger the Breakthrough. Emphasizing this is important because Breakthrough allows you to gain a lot of Redundant Energy.
Additionally, Zani’s Heavy Attack and aerial attack can also chain into the third segment of the Basic Attack. The Dodge Counter likewise uses the same third-segment Basic Attack module but deals higher damage. In actual combat, performing a Dodge Counter into Breakthrough quickly charges energy, making Zani’s Dodge Counter quite valuable.
When facing attacks, if Zani uses her Resonance Skill, she raises her shield to enter a defensive stance. If she is attacked during this block, the damage taken is reduced by 100%, meaning complete immunity. At the same time, nearby enemies are stalled, and she launches a counterattack. If you press the Basic Attack key while holding the shield up, Zani will immediately chain into the third segment of the Basic Attack and can again connect into Breakthrough.
All of the above — Basic Attack, Resonance Skill, and Zani’s Intro Skill — can increase Redundant Energy.
After Redundant Energy is fully charged, Zani’s Resonance Skill becomes enhanced, changing into a sword-raising stance that emits light. By holding down the Resonance Skill button, Zani enters Ready Stance, placing the massive sword formed from her shield behind her and beginning to charge. It functions similarly to the normal Resonance Skill, also having a Counter Attack trigger.
The counter timing for this Counter Attack is only during the first 0.5 seconds of the charge, which is much shorter than the normal Counter Attack window. If Zani is attacked during this brief window, nearby enemies are stopped, and she consumes all Redundant Energy to launch a counterattack.
If you release the Basic Attack key midway through the charge, or if the Counter Attack is not triggered during the charge, Zani will still unleash an attack that deals the same damage as the counterattack. However, this attack does not apply the additional Vibration Strength reduction or grant the Damage Reduction buff.
Both types of attacks — whether from a successful counter or a regular charge release — can apply one stack of “Heliacal Ember” to the target and grant Zani 10 points of Blaze, which is the Forte Circuit energy shown on the lower bar.
Additionally, Zani will gain a 14-second Sunburst buff. This Sunburst state increases the Deepen effect of Zani’s Spectro Frazzle damage by 20%. Moreover, the damage from the sword-form Counter Attack itself is also treated as Spectro Frazzle damage and benefits from this Sunburst buff. As we know, the DoT effect of Spectro Frazzle is not influenced by the character’s ATK or damage boosts and cannot critically strike. However, a large portion of Zani’s damage, while classified as Spectro Frazzle damage, can still benefit from Deepen effects, is influenced by her ATK and bonus damage increases, and can critically strike.
Thus, after releasing this enhanced Resonance Skill, Zani enters the Sunburst state and can begin her burst phase.
Zani’s Liberation and Blaze
The bar below is called Blaze. It is directly related to Zani’s core damage output. Without using Resonance Liberation, the maximum limit of Blaze is 100 points. There are three ways to obtain Blaze. The first is through the sword-form Counter Attack that was just mentioned, which grants 10 points of Blaze upon activation. The second method is when Zani is in the team, whenever other characters apply Spectro Frazzle to enemies, it directly converts into the same number of “Heliacal Ember.” Each converted stack grants 5 points of Blaze. At the same time, the damage from the Spectro Frazzle is immediately effective. This immediate effective means that the current number of Spectro Frazzle stacks will instantly deal damage once. For example, six stacks will immediately deal six-stack damage, convert into six stacks of Heliacal Ember, and grant 30 points of Blaze. If it is two stacks, it will deal two-stack damage, convert into two stacks of Heliacal Ember, and grant 10 points of Blaze.
In a typical rotation, excluding the 10 points of Blaze gained from the sword-form Counter Attack, to fully charge the 100 points of Blaze, you generally need to convert 18 stacks of Spectro Frazzle.
Now, let’s calculate how much Phoebe can generate. Entering Confession State gives 1 stack, two Heavy Attacks give 10 stacks, and using Resonance Liberation gives 8 stacks, totaling 19 stacks, which equals 95 points of Blaze. For Rover-Spectro, the Resonance Liberation can apply 6 stacks, the enhanced Resonance Skill can apply 2 stacks, and typically players can use it twice in one rotation, adding 4 more stacks, totaling 10 stacks, or 50 points of Blaze.
It is important to note that when facing multiple enemies, even if Rover-Spectro’s Resonance Liberation applies 6 stacks of Spectro Frazzle to several enemies, and each is converted into Heliacal Ember, Zani still only gains 6×5, which is 30 points of Blaze. Therefore, with Zani and Phoebe together, you can fully charge 100 points of Blaze without using Resonance Liberation. With Zani and Rover-Spectro, without using Resonance Liberation, you can only reach about 60 points of Blaze.
The third method of obtaining Blaze is using Resonance Liberation. When Zani uses Resonance Liberation, she deals damage and enters the burst state The Blaze cap increases from 100 to 150 points, and Zani immediately gains 50 points of Blaze. This means if you had 90 points of Blaze before using Resonance Liberation, afterward you would have 140 points.
Thus, with Zani and Phoebe together, using Resonance Liberation ensures the Blaze bar is filled to 150 points. However, with Zani and Rover-Spectro, after using Resonance Liberation, you would generally only have about 110 points of Blaze.
This Resonance Liberation state lasts for 20 seconds, which is quite long, but after 8 seconds, you will notice that the Resonance Liberation icon lights up again. This indicates that Zani’s second-phase Resonance Liberation is unlocked. There are two ways to unlock the second phase: one is that 8 seconds naturally pass after the initial Resonance Liberation is used, and the other is that the Blaze drops below 30 points. If you press the button for the second-phase Resonance Liberation, Zani will jump up and deal damage. After releasing the second-phase Resonance Liberation, Zani exits the Resonance Liberation state.
The process between using Resonance Liberation and using the second-phase Resonance Liberation, consuming Blaze in between, is Zani’s core damage output period.
Heavy Slash – Daybreak(1st), Dawning(2rd) and Nightfall(3rd)
At this point, Zani’s Basic Attack is replaced by three stages of Heavy Slash – Heavy Slash – Daybreak (1st), Dawning (2nd), and Nightfall (3rd). Although these names are quite elegant, for easier reference, we will call them Heavy Slash Stage 1, Heavy Slash Stage 2, and Heavy Slash Stage 3. These Heavy Slashes are considered both Heavy Attack damage and Spectro Frazzle damage. As mentioned earlier, this means the damage benefits from Deepen buffs, and it is also affected by Zani’s ATK, bonus damage, and Critical Damage boosts.
These three Heavy Slashes consume Blaze. Heavy Slash Stage 1 consumes 10 points of Blaze, Heavy Slash Stage 2 consumes 20 points, and Heavy Slash Stage 3, Nightfall, consumes up to 40 points of Blaze. If you have less than 40 points, it uses as much as available. Moreover, for each point of Blaze consumed during Nightfall, the multiplier increases by 9.95%, allowing the maximum multiplier to reach 795%. Although this may not seem extremely explosive at a glance, during the Resonance Liberation period, it is possible to unleash multiple Heavy Slashes. The second Heavy Slash also has a 424% base multiplier.
30 points of Blaze is a very important threshold. It determines whether you can perform another full set of Heavy Slashes. One primary method of attacking during Resonance Liberation is to repeatedly unleash three Heavy Slashes.
Besides using consecutive Heavy Slashes, you can also hold the Resonance Skill button to charge up and release. After using Resonance Liberation, you will notice that the Resonance Skill icon changes to the same icon used for sword-form Counter Attack. Holding the Resonance Skill button causes Zani to charge, and once the charge completes, she immediately unleashes the highest-damage third Heavy Slash.
Moreover, after activating Resonance Liberation, if you simply hold the Basic Attack key instead of the Resonance Skill key, it also initiates the charge action. Upon entering the Resonance Liberation state, if you perform no action before pressing Basic Attack, this Basic Attack is treated as the Resonance Skill.
If you release the charge before it fully completes, Zani will perform the first Heavy Slash. This charging action uses the same motion module as sword-form Counter Attack. During the first 0.5 seconds of charging, it has a Counter Attack trigger. If hit during this time, Zani will automatically unleash the second Heavy Slash. Additionally, during this counterattack animation, Zani is invincible.
Furthermore, a successful Counter Attack-triggered Heavy Slash also reduces enemies’ Vibration Strength. When an enemy’s Vibration Strength drops to 0, they become paralyzed, giving you a window for dealing damage. Therefore, the charged Counter Attack not only provides great safety but also indirectly enhances your damage output environment.
During the second-stage Heavy Slash animation, holding the Resonance Skill button will not be interrupted, and it has no cooldown.
Now, regarding Dodge Counter, if you have at least 30 points of Blaze — that is, above the black line — Zani’s Dodge Counter also becomes the second Heavy Slash and unlocks Nightfall. However, unlike the Counter Attack-triggered Heavy Slash, the Dodge Counter version does not provide the extra 10% Vibration Strength reduction or the damage reduction buff. Thus, while Dodge Counter is still strong on its own, it does not shine as much compared to the charged Counter Attack before releasing Resonance Liberation.
Zani Active Skills
Zani Skills Priority

Since over 70% of Zani’s damage multiplier comes from her Forte Circuit, you shouldn’t distribute upgrades evenly. You must prioritize maxing her Forte Circuit to level 10 first. Her Resonance Liberation can also be upgraded to level 10, while her other skills are less important and more or less the same.

Heliacal Ember
When Zani is in the team and a nearby Resonator inflicts Spectro Frazzle upon a target, immediately consume all Spectro Frazzle stacks and trigger the corresponding DMG, then convert Spectro Frazzle into an equal number of Heliacal Ember. Every time the conversion happens, Zani obtains Blaze based on the stacks of Heliacal Ember inflicted. Heliacal Ember is capped at 60 stacks, with each stack lasting for 6s. Heliacal Ember stacks are counted toward the Spectro Frazzle stacks for the Eternal Radiance Sonata Effect.
Scorching Light
When Zani is in Inferno Mode, Heavy Slash – Daybreak, Heavy Slash – Dawning, Heavy Slash – Nightfall, and Heavy Slash – Lightsmash become available, which deal Spectro DMG that is considered both Heavy Attack DMG and Spectro Frazzle DMG.
When Blaze is higher than 30, Resonance Skill Standard Defense Protocol is replaced with Resonance Skill Scorching Light.
Hold Resonance Skill to enter Ready Stance, during which Zani is immune to interruptions. Release to consume Blaze and perform Heavy Slash – Daybreak.
When attacked in a certain time after entering Ready Stance, neutralize this instance of damage and perform Heavy Slash – Lightsmash, Stagnating the target and further reducing their Vibration Strength by 10%. The DMG taken within the next 2s is reduced by 30%.
After casting Heavy Slash – Lightsmash, Basic Attack is replaced with Heavy Slash – Nightfall, consuming up to 40 Blazes, with each Blaze increasing the DMG Multiplier of Heavy Slash – Nightfall.
When Ready Stance ends, immediately perform Heavy Slash – Nightfall that costs at most. Every Blaze consumed increases the DMG Multiplier of Heavy Slash – Nightfall.
When Blaze is higher than 30, Basic Attack is replaced with Heavy Slash – Daybreak. After entering Inferno Mode, casting Basic Attack immediately replaces the current Basic Attack with Resonance Skill Scorching Light. Hold Basic Attack to enter Ready Stance.
After performing Heavy Slash – Daybreak, Basic Attack is replaced with Heavy Slash – Dawning when the number of Blazes obtained is above 30.
After performing Heavy Slash – Dawning, Basic Attack is replaced with Heavy Slash – Nightfall, consuming up to 40 Blazes, with each Blaze increasing the DMG Multiplier of Heavy Slash – Nightfall. Zani Resonance Chain
S1
Provides a 50% damage boost and interruption resistance, offering approximately 20% more damage compared to S0.
S2
Grants a permanent 20% CRIT Rate boost. The 80% multiplier increase on Forcible Riposte results in roughly 15.8% more damage.
S3
While the 1200% multiplier on her Ultimate (Heavy Slash – Nightfall) looks impressive, it does not count as Blaze damage and thus cannot benefit from DMG Deepen effects. The actual damage increase is only about 7.8%.
S4/S5
S4 provides a 7% damage increase, while S5 only adds 2%.
S6
First effect: Increases Heavy Slash multiplier by 40%.
Second effect: Immediately restores 70 Blaze if it drops below 70.
When paired with Phoebe, Zani can accumulate 225 Blaze per rotation, allowing up to four Nightfall slashes.
However, this is not recommended because the long animation time may cause the final hit to miss buff windows.
The total damage increase is around 41.8%.
Pulling Recommendations
Zani’s signature weapon is significantly stronger than Phoebe’s.
The baseline for a smooth gameplay experience is S0R1 Zani + S0 Phoebe.

Sub Stats
For Zani, equip the new Spectro set – Eternal Radiance. Zani’s ability to convert Spectro Frazzle effects into Heliacal Embers can trigger the new Spectro set’s bonuses. This means both the +20% CRIT Rate and +15% Spectro DMG bonuses can be activated.
Regardless of whether your weapon’s substat is CRIT Rate or CRIT DMG, it’s recommended to choose a CRIT DMG main stat for your 4-cost Echo. For 3-cost Echoes, try to use two with Spectro DMG main stats. If you use ATK% + Spectro DMG instead, your damage will be about 3% lower.
Now here’s something interesting: Zani’s best main Echo is actually the 3-cost Capitaneus. Capitaneus provides 12% Spectro DMG and 12% Heavy Attack DMG. Zani is lacking DMG Increase Bonus, so these buffs are valuable to her.
For substats, the priority remains:
CRIT Rate/CRIT DMG > ATK% > Heavy Attack DMG > Flat ATK
As for Energy Regen, 120% or higher will feel very comfortable. The minimum threshold is around 110%.

The optimal choice is her signature weapon. As a substitute, Roccia’s signature weapon can be used since Zani’s core Heavy Slash attacks count as both Spectro damage and Heavy Attack, allowing them to benefit from the Heavy Attack damage bonus. Further alternatives include Xiangli Yao’s signature weapon or standard 5-star weapons. The 4-star weapons perform significantly worse than the signature weapon and are not recommended.
Zani Team Comp
Zani Best Team
Main DPS – Zani
Zani’s damage can convert Spectro Frazzle to Heliacal Ember, her damage and Forte Circuit engergy gain based on the stacks of Heliacal Ember.
(After Phoebe’s or Rover’s Outro Skill, Zani uses her skill combined with a three-hit basic attack combo to charge her Forte energy. Once the energy is full, activate Liberation to enter her burst state. During this period, perform two full cycles of basic attack combos (attacks 1-3) to consume Blaze. After the burst ends, you can either use Liberation again if available or switch to another character.)
Sub DPS – Phoebe/Rover (Spectro)
Phoebe can be switch between Absolution mode (Main DPS) and Confession mode(Support). In this team, Phoebe is switch to Support mode to maximize Zani’s damage. Phoebe can provide many stacks of Spectro Frazzle to enemies.
(When Phoebe enters the field, hold the basic attack button to switch to Confession mode. Use her skill and cancel the animation with Liberation. Then, perform her basic attack combo (attacks 1-3), followed by a held basic attack for a special move. Repeat this process twice to apply up to 18 stacks of Spectro Frazzle, which is enough to fully set up Zani’s burst. After this, switch to Zani for maximum damage output.)
6 Rover (Spectro) can reduce the Spectro Resistance of enemies, thereby increasing Zani’s damage. Additionally, Rover’s can also inflict Spectro Frazzle to enemies.
(When Spectro Rover enters the field, use their Enhanced Special skill first, then build up Forte energy by dodging, countering, and using heavy attacks. Once the energy is full, activate Liberation and use the Enhanced Special again before switching to Zani. Spectro Rover can only provide 10-12 Frazzle stacks, so Zani may not be able to perform two full burst cycles and will need to rely on additional skills to compensate.)
Healer – Shorekeeper/Verina
In addition to providing the traditional 15% All DMG Deepen like other healers, Shorekeeper’s Liberation can offer continuous healing, crit rate, and crit damage, making it very powerful. The Outro Skill’s buff allows knocked-back teammates to immediately recover from the interruption.
Verina is a secondary healer that can provide Spectro DMG deepen and ATK% increase to teammates. While Verina is more comprehensive, her buff lasts longer, and she can protect a party member from fatal damage every 10 minutes.

Calcharo
Calcharo primarily uses the enhanced Basic Attack and enhanced Forte Circuit after using Resonance Liberation for damage output. In the series of damage output after using Resonance Liberation, the damage ratio between Resonance Liberation and Basic Attack is approximately 2.2:1. Additionally, the Resonance Skill can be released at intervals, allowing full enjoyment of the permanent five-star weapon’s effects.
After using Resonance Liberation, Calcharo gains a new Basic Attack model. The multiplier for this attack is related to the level of Resonance Liberation, but the main proportion of his damage comes from the “Death Messenger” in Forte Circuit. Resonance Skill can be used during the Liberation period to interrupt Basic Attack combos, quickly generate Forte Circuit Energy, and trigger “Death Messenger”. The main components of his damage output consist of these three elements.
Encore
mong the permanent 5-star Fusion DPS characters, Encore enters an enhanced state and changes attack mode after activating Resonance Liberation. The main source of Encore’s damage comes from Basic Attacks after activating Resonance Liberation, not the Forte Circuit. Additionally, the cooldowns for Encore’s regular Resonance Skill and the enhanced Resonance Skill during Resonance Liberation are independent of each other.
In Encore’s damage output after activating Resonance Liberation, Basic Attack damage accounts for nearly 70%. Choosing Sanhua as a teammate can maximize her damage potential.
Sanhua
Although Sanhua has burst capabilities, the overall damage is not high. In Sanhua’s output cycle, Resonance Skill damage and Resonance Liberation account for approximately 51% and 41%, respectively.
Although Resonance Skill damage is slightly higher, there is a risk of missing in actual combat. Sanhua has a unique Forte Circuit trigger mechanism similar to rhythm games, and hitting enemies can cause a slight time-stopping effect.
Sanhua has the fastest Concerto Energy and Resonance Energy acquisition efficiency in the game, making it the most versatile and best-feeling support in the current version. After using the Intro Skill, Sanhua only needs 3 seconds to fully charge Concerto Energy and trigger QTE, activating the Main DPS for output. Our team composition recommendations for various characters also show Sanhua’s high versatility.
